How to check your exact State Pension payment date
How to check your State Pension payment date: online, app and phone
There are four official and free ways to confirm your State Pension payment date and check your payment history. None of them require you to visit a Jobcentre Plus in person or share your banking details with a third party.
💻 1. GOV.UK — the official government website
Visit gov.uk/state-pension to read the current official guidance on State Pension payment dates, amounts and eligibility. You can also use the Check your State Pension forecast tool at gov.uk/check-state-pension to see your projected pension amount, your current National Insurance record and whether you can make voluntary contributions to increase your entitlement.

📱 2. HMRC app and Personal Tax Account
Download the HMRC app (available on iOS and Android) and sign in with your Government Gateway credentials. Through the app and your Personal Tax Account at tax.service.gov.uk, you can view your National Insurance record, check your State Pension forecast and manage your personal details — including updating your address and contact information held by HMRC.
📞 3. The Pension Service helpline — 0800 731 0469
Call 0800 731 0469 free of charge from any landline or mobile phone. Agents are available Monday to Friday, 8am to 6pm, and can confirm your payment date, the amount of your State Pension and the bank account or building society account registered for your payments. Have your National Insurance number to hand to verify your identity before the call.
For those without internet access — or who simply prefer speaking to someone — this is the most accessible option and requires no online account or smartphone.

🏦 4. Bank statement or online banking
Once your State Pension is in payment, check your bank statement through your bank's mobile app, online banking portal or at a cash machine. The credit will typically appear as "DWP STATE PENSION" or similar on your transaction history, along with the amount paid.
If you bank with a provider that offers instant payment notifications, enable these alerts on your mobile so you know the moment your pension has arrived in your account — without needing to log in manually each week.
For those who prefer not to use online banking, your local bank branch can print a mini-statement or provide a balance at the counter free of charge in most cases.
Practical tip: set a recurring reminder on your phone or in your diary for your regular payment day so you can plan your weekly shop, energy top-ups and any transfers to family members accordingly.
